BLOGGING PLATFORMS

There are so many blogging platforms to use these days. The most popular ones include Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, and Tumblr. Tumblr is a really popular one for fashion bloggers as it's platform is easiest to use. Blogger is by far the most popular, it's owned by Google but Wordpress is the most flexible. People create magazines on Wordpress blogs.

HOW DO I SWITCH FROM ONE PLATFORM TO ANOTHER

My site blog is ran on the quickblogcast platform but my site is ran on Weebly and both of them are rather easy to use. I attempted to change from quickblogcast to wordpress and I had to use my RSS feed to transfer it over. Click on the rss feed link to read how to transfer your entries, comments and trackbacks over.

WHAT'S THE SENSE IN HAVING YOUR OWN DOMAIN?
Whatever you choose to do, it is essential that you own your own site. A dot com or dot net can be the difference between a few dollars in adsense and alot of dollars in adsense not to mention it seems more professional. You can own your own .com for under $20 today. I bought my site from Godaddy.

When you buy from Godaddy you usually get a facebook ad credit, a credit for website tonight, quickblogcast and you get 90 free subdomains. A subdomain is the xxx.brooklynposh.com so, this site seoinfo.brooklynposh.com is a subdomain. This means alot of things. If you want to, you can have all your friends have a blog on your website and your traffic rankings will go up like crazy! Or, you can use it like I use it and create different things on different sites! I have a forum, a chat, a blog, and a couple of websites all hosted on brooklynposh.com.

**I do not advocate using website tonight or paying for it because Weebly is a much better product. Hands down and it's free. It gives you the look of a professional site without the price and all you have to sacrifice is a banner.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN .NET, .COM, .BIZ, .INFO, .MOBI
Godaddy makes it so you can have your site set up in another country if you wanted to but it might be a little expensive. You can have yoursite.ru (russia) Which is pretty cool. But the clear difference between the top level domains are basically in the traffic. Michaeljackson.com could generate more traffic than michaeljackson.biz and therefore costs more. This idea ties into the whole traffic thing! Believe it or not, some poor shmuck is watching what you type and the keywords you type are making a certain website online more expensive as every second goes by!

WHAT IF MY .COM IS ALREADY TAKEN?

With the growing popularity of the internet, the ideas for .coms are becoming smaller and smaller as more domain names are introduced. I advocate two things if your .com is taken. First, you can contact the current owner to see if they'd be willing to sell. If you can't contact them, I would then say check the site periodically like once a month. If they aren't doing anything with the site, chances are they won't renew it when the time comes around (usually within a year). You can snag it up like that. The second thing I say do is get a different ending. See if the .net, .biz, .info are already taken. Chances are you could save a few bucks by not opting for the .com anyway.
